Life at Timbertop is set to become even sweeter with the imminent opening of new dessert bar, Goodie Two Shoes.
The Foschini family, who run Timbertop’s popular High Horse cafe, are behind the new venture which is set to open next to the IGA supermarket in coming weeks.
Sweet tooth heaven
Matt Foschini said the dessert bar will be heaven for those with a sweet tooth offering homemade ice cream, gelato, cakes, loaded shakes, artesian donuts and more.
“As a family with an Italian background all those sweet foods, especially gelato, come naturally to us,” said Matt, who is being joined in the venture by wife Linda, brother John and John’s wife Julia.
“It’s pretty exciting because there are not a lot of dessert options available where we are in Timbertop, you have to travel a fair distance if you want to get any type of desserts.
“We want Goodie Two Shoes to be a one-stop shop for sweet tooths in the area.”
Takeaway treats for community enjoyment
The dessert bar, which will be takeaway only, will be a confection of funky pink and blue tones, with tables both inside and out for those who want to linger with friends while they enjoy their sweet treats.
“Our vision is for it to be a cool space that is friendly and inviting to those near and far. There are a lot of young families with kids and teens who we think will love the dessert bar concept,” said Matt.
“Similar to High Horse, we want Goodie Two Shoes to be welcoming and a place locals feel is part of their community.”
Expect tailored flavours for every taste
When it comes to his own sweet tooth, Matt says his go to choice, especially on a hot summer’s day, is homemade lemon gelato.
The Foschinis have partnered with a supplier who crafts old fashioned Italian-style gelato.
“Goodie Two Shoes will offer all the staple flavours, but the gentleman who makes it for us will also be able to tailor flavours to suit customer requests and allow us to offer, for example, a special flavour every week,” explained Matt.
And while work continues towards the grand opening of Goodie Two Shoes, the Foschinis are also busy running the popular High Horse Cafe.
Expanding the High Horse Cafe
Matt says the family has exciting plans to subtly expand the High Horse this year including enlarging the cafe’s outdoor area and expanding the kitchen. The changes will allow more indoor seating and new menu offerings.
Matt said staff at the High Horse will rotate between the cafe and new dessert bar, which will be managed by Roma, a familiar face to patrons of the High Horse.
“We have an awesome team of people around us. Our family all works together and our employees are now family too. They are the reason we can venture into new things.
“Customers at Goodie Two Shoes will know many of the friendly faces they know at High Horse.”
Matt said the Focshini family is incredibly grateful for the support of the Timbertop community.
“The support of the local community, and especially Parklea, has helped drive us to where we are today. Not in our wildest dreams did with think we would be expanding in such a short period of time. We are super thankful.”
For the community, by the community
Matt said he, John and their wives couldn’t think of a better place to open another business than their own community. The families live next door to each other in Timbertop.
“I never dreamed how immersed we could be in the community. The High Horse has given us the ability to meet so many people. We’ve made friendships and business partnerships in the area and we want to grow that with Goodie Two Shoes. We love this community, the area and people. We feel a genuine connection with the Timbertop community and we hope everyone feels the same way about us.”
